This is Modern Art: Collective Consciousness Theatre

'This is Modern Art' on Vimeo.

Collective Consciousness Theatre presents "This Is Modern Art" by Idris Goodwin and Kevin Coval. This new play follows three young graffiti writers and weighs questions of public vs. private art access, who art belongs to and why. Please watch the video above.

Get tickets by clicking here, and also check the list of showtimes as seen on the left.

Also of note in recent posts: Collective Consciousness Theatre is hosting a Summer Apprenticeship Program workshop at ArtSpace at 50 Orange (duly mentioned earlier on Nhv.Org), so if you know of any adventurous high school students, please advise them on that opportunity.

New Haven is a hub of culture, and increasingly, theatre; as well as film, with the inclusion of the work of great camerawork and editing provided to our communities by talented creators such as Travis Carbonella, who produced that video that this post begins with.

Nhv.Org is a collaboration of likeminded community members with an interest in getting the word out about positive stuff coming from our friends, our family, and our neighborhood.

World Cup Village Wins

Regardless of who's playing, we're all winning here in #Nhv because of World Cup Village, part of the 99 Days of Summer in downtown New Haven (great article here). As part of Town Green District's plan to make living in our city more interesting, you're invited to watch any of the remaining World Cup games in Pitkin Plaza, which is near the corner of Orange Street and Chapel.

Women's Rallies and Public Meetings Saturday

11am at Wooster Park: Rally "#YesAllWomen"
On Saturday June 7, join a nationwide effort to move the discussion surrounding #YesAllWomen from the Internet to our communities. It's a discussion that can't be confined to 140 characters, and one that has space for everyone's story.

Bring your story to Wooster Square on June 7th as we talk about how to make home, work, and play safer for women in Connecticut.

There's a Facebook Group for this, by the way.

1pm at Wilson Library: Public Meeting
To continue the topic today, later at 1pm there is another event at the Wilson Branch Library in the Hill Section at 303 Washington Avenue. It's free and there will be refreshments. It's about the Struggle for LGBT Liberation (Stonewall Was A Riot). The flyer reads, "Victories in every state have not been the result of benevolent judges or legislatures, but the product of massive peoples' movements for equality. How can we keep building these necessary movements?"

And it will also contain a talk about the roots of LGBTQ Oppression. How it connects to other forms of oppresion like racism and sexism. And how movements unite to fight capitalism, the root facuse of oppression? This is hosted by the Party for Socialism and Liberation. You can find more information on their site at LiberationNews.Org

Oystering at Pardee-Morris

Today from 2pm - 4pm, the New Haven Museum is boasting of an interesting activity.

The New Haven Museum’s Pardee-Morris House is a 6,000 sq. ft 18th-century farmhouse located on Lighthouse Road on the east shore of New Haven harbor. Built by Amos Morris around 1750, the house was burned by the British during their raid on New Haven in 1779 and rebuilt by the Morris family. It remained in that family until 1915, when it was purchased by William Pardee, a descendant of the Morris family, who hoped to make it his home. Pardee died in 1918 and willed the property, along with a small endowment, to the New Haven Museum, then known as the New Haven Colony Historical Society. Today, the Pardee-Morris House is open seasonally for events, classes and tours.

Rain Doesn't Discourage Chalkville

Photo:  Tina Lindstrom (Americorps AlumsCT)
West Haven.
Persistent precipitation won't cause any perspiration at Chalkville in West Haven this weekend.
Chalkville is still set to meet their goal of becoming the largest chalk drawing in the world.

Plenty of chalk for everyone
We want you to participate!  Simply follow the map down below and head over there with as much commercially available chalk as you can find.  Operators with brooms are standing by.

Today's Weather
As Dr. Mel would say, "There's a lot of weather out there."  After yesterday's odds, Sunday is looking like it might live up to its name (depending on how isolated those thunderstorms are).   Use the dynamic map below to visit and participate in Chalkville.

They'll be continuing their efforts all day today today.  Here's their location.  You can register on site.

Ninth Square this Evening

View Streating in a larger map

The event may be sold out (last reports were that 9 tickets are still available) but another Streating (Street+Eating)_ event from OurEmptySpace is taking place this afternoon/evening on Orange Street, so try to avert that area if you're driving by following this handy detour map.

If you're into vintage furniture, also check out Acme Furniture (be sure to 'like' their Facebook page) because they're also having a street sale (see blue pushpin).

And if you would like to explore the possibility of brewing your own beer, consider talking to Scott over at Luck and Levity (around the corner from the Streating event on the map, see purple pushpin).

Going to be an interesting night!  Hopefully it will also cool off a little as the sun sets.  The weather reports for temperatures will drop to 82F by 8pm this evening.
