Seymour based artist and vintage clothing vendor Jillian Lyons is ready to give New Haven her
haunted vision of Halloween. Valley Vintage & Jillian Lyons Designs will be taking over Project
Storefront New Haven’s location, PopUp 55, for a one week only engagement from October
27th November 3rd. The shop will feature vintage Halloween accessories, masks and
costumes as well as handmade costume pieces, vintage clothing in fall colorways, handmade
spooky jewelry and Halloween themed fine art photography. The shop will be open all seven
days from 12pm 7pm. Items will be curated daily throughout its seven day run. The Mini
Halloween Shop may also be announcing special guests as the event date comes closer!

Jillian Lyons began Jillian Lyons Designs in late 2010 as a way to deal with an unexpected
cancer diagnosis. As she recovered, she began to create a full handmade inventory and start
working again. She took a part time position with New Haven’s own Vintanthromodern Vintage
working as an assistant as well as handling booking and promotions. Vintanthromodern’s
Melissa Gonzales was a big influence on Ms. Lyons. Jillian utilized her experience when taking her small collection of vintage clothing to create an online business, Valley Vintage. Jillian uses

Vintanthromodern Seeks to Share Space

Trolley Square is one of New Haven's upcoming commercial spaces. One of its more successful occupants, a vintage thrift store known as Vintanthromodern, operated by Melissa Gonzales, is ready to share some of her space.

"We are still looking for 1-2 people to share our space at Trolley Square in New Haven. Looking for inexpensive creative studio space, or retail exposure for your handmade, vintage or design business? Space will be available May 1st. Please inbox us for details!"

If you have any interest in sharing space with a vintage thrift shop, pay the place a visit! If you know Melissa already, you can always email her expressing interest in this great opportunity.

In particular, if you live in New Haven and have an interest in making your own clothes and selling them, this is your chance to mix styles with other handmade industries and quirky Connecticut ingenuity.

East Rock Fest Video Recap

East Rock Festival 2013 from #NHV on Vimeo.

The East Rock Festival was a success again this year, with participation from the New Haven Parks Department (providing the climbing wall), numerous vendors, musicians, and most of all, members of the community, cohesively bringing together an atmosphere reminiscent of New York City in the mid-1980's, when community street festivals were the norm.

In years to come, we hope that the festival continues to evolve and grow, because that's what the community around it is doing.  If you're interested in attending or participating in the festival next year, maybe watch the short 2-minute video and get a feel for the type of environment the event creates.

Local craftsmen, including spoon maker Reinaldo Cruz, as well as buttonmaker/graphic designer Jessica Ferguson were there.  Elm City Wellness was there.  Vintanthromodern was there.  Many others, as well.  Caseus Cheese Truck was there.  In fact, so many participants (Katalina's Cupcakes...) and many others were there.  It's impossible to mention everyone.

Coach Nate from New Haven Youth Soccer was teaching kids how to dribble a soccer ball on one's head, along with Coach Freddy (in the video).  They inspired kids to be athletic and take a chance at a new sport.  If you have a kid in the age group eligible for their program, try NHYSoccer.Org.

Next year, sign up!  It'll be just as an amazing experience as this year.  The weather could not have been better for a day in September.  Don't know who to thank for that; but...  thanks!

Pop-Up Shop Review

Visit Vintanthromodern's website for more information about great deals concerning vintage fashion here in New Haven as they facilitate good experiences.  Tina, a social worker, enjoyed the selection at the pop-up boutique this weekend at 1020 Chapel Street (see video), which was announced earlier this week on Nhv.  She picked out a dress to wear when her grandma visits town.  Stay tuned for more info on great ways to enjoy the opportunity of living in New Haven, here on this network.

Vitanthromodern generally operates from the English Market building, just down the street at 839 Chapel Street, nestled closely to a Yoga Studio, the Bourse (a co-working loft) and the Institute Library, mentioned also recently for a talk on "Little Ghosts" (see the article).
