SITE PROJECTS presents its latest commission, ​ArtSites:NewHaven, a​ website presenting a digital exhibition of outdoor and public art in New Haven. Built on an interactive map of the city, ​ArtSites​ the product is of in-depth research, interviews with artists, and photo essays presented on a specially designed website and original user-interface. The website offers rigorously curated and well-documented content—both educational and entertaining. ​ Your city anew. Art is everywhere.

An astounding variety of art can be discovered within the boundaries of New Haven’s historic nine-square grid and without entering a single building. Ranging from monumental sculptures by the most influential artists of the 20th century to contemporary street art, LED light installations to monuments of historic and artistic significance—the quality and breadth of New Haven’s collection is on par with the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. Site Projects’ ArtSites:NewHaven​ finds its nexus in this remarkable, and little known, feature of our city.


An interactive website, ​ArtSites:NewHaven ​illustrates, locates, and describes outdoor art throughout the city—from Long Wharf to West Rock, from UNH to the East Rock and the New Haven Green—providing a dynamic, informative experience of outdoor visual arts. Free to use and accessible by a URL link from any mobile device, tablet, or computer, ​ArtSites​ based on​n interactive map of New Haven and pinpoints​ locations of outdoor art all over the city. Photo essays on the artworks are accompanied by key information and commentary, providing historical and art-historical backgrounds, colorful anecdotes, and links to additional resources.

Created to inform and encourage tourists and residents alike to explore the city’s public spaces, ​
ArtSites​ includes works owned by local universities, those commissioned by the city, Site Projects’ commissions, monuments, and privately owned artworks in public spaces. The first iteration of ​
ArtSites ​launches with comprehensive entries on thirty pieces. Over time, the catalogue will grow to feature as many works as we can identify, creating a compelling and refreshed urban narrative.
Tourists, residents, students, and teachers will have an essential tool—in hand—with which to learn of the remarkable history, outstanding artists, and visionary leaders who have fundamentally shaped the public arena in New Haven. Public art is a vital and revitalizing part of New Haven’s urban landscape, yet often the stories, authors, and origins of these works gets lost or forgotten. Here's a neat new video from SiteProjects, responsible for some of New Haven's must interesting public art available. It includes some compiled footage from artwork produced over the years.





SiteProjects has created such works as The Square with Four Circles, a landmark art piece in New Haven since it was painted in 2010. Siteprojects was also responsible for launching last year's Night Rainbow.







SiteProjects has recently featured a work called Whispering Galleries at the New Haven Free Public Library.

Night Rainbow Vantage Points

Are you excited for April's "Night Rainbow" from SiteProjects?  It's a four evening art display which will be visible to tens of thousands of people for free on the weekend of April 24th.  And it will be visible from dusk until about 1am.

People are already trying to determine where the best points to view the installation will be.  Some have said that Phelps Triangle, across from Berzelius Society building, is a point of focus for the Night Rainbow.  It's also been said that downtown positions of elevation, such as the parking structure that the Square with Four Circles installation was installed, will also be a good vantage point.

Night Rainbow Advocacy

Part of urban daily life is seeing your neighbor try teaching his kids skateboarding on a quiet one-way street just walking distance from downtown.  Another part is deejaying a promotional fundraiser at BAR, local pizza place and night club.  What's unusual is the prospect of a 40km "Night Rainbow" next month.  There's a deep sense of obligation to mention that piece of information constantly.

Wouldn't want anyone to miss it.

All-A-Glow on Sunday

SiteProjects is a community based non-profit organization that commissions site-specific art projects in the public realm in New Haven by internationally-recognized artists.  The goal is to present visual art that appeals to a broad and diverse audience and that is site-specific to New Haven, an economically and ethnically mixed city that supports a vibrant arts community and many other cultural resources.  [source]

This year, they will be installing with Yvette Mattern, a Berliner with a passion for lasers.  These lights reach 40 kilometers and will be beaming across New Haven from April 24th until April 27th from Dusk to 1am.  A trajectory chart will be available in the upcoming weeks, with regards to places / locations that might be suitable for viewing.  Find out about how you can be involved.

SiteProjects is also offering an educational guide and online classroom on their website, so that schools can become more educated about New Haven's history, and about light diffraction.  This year marks the 375th anniversary of New Haven's history as a city.  


This Sunday: A Benefit at BAR On Crown Street [$15] to Help Support This Project.

This Sunday at BAR experience local talent.

The benefit this sunday will feature groups like Sundagger, Fake Babies, Blinding Yellow, Constantly Burning Fire, and L.S. Aristotle.  There will be FREE limited edition prints for those who secure Advanced Tickets.  Other amenities include Live Painters, Hip Hop Dancers, LED Hula Hoopers, Face Painting, Free Gifts, and I don't see how it could get any better than Free Gifts.  Whenever you hear free gifts, that generally insures that you should probably get advanced tickets.
