Neville Wisdom Talks Upcoming Fashion Show (Video)

Dresses by Neville Wisdom
New Haven is full of a bunch of interesting people. One of them is fashion designer Neville Wisdom, who wisely chose New Haven as the home base for his clothing operations around the world.

Brand new to his facility includes the highly technological automated table which cuts patterns. His work staff digitize his original designs, import them into a computer, and then 'print' them onto fabric which cuts out the designs. It's high tech, yet still hands-on; all the work is still done here in Connecticut. Though with a robot on staff, Neville has to work a lot faster.

"Phew!" says Neville.
"It's been really crazy," he states, referring on how difficult it is to keep up with the pace of life. Neville designs fashion for everyone - and by everyone, we mean women. His designs are for any type of woman. What's remarkable? Custom fit is part of every purchase at Neville Wisdom's locations. His manufacturing center is in the heart of Westville, along with his storefront on the ground floor; he also has a 2nd retail location downtown in the 9th Square.

Fashion Shows have become a regular part of his seasonal routine, with runway models sampling out his latest designs. These are dresses which are conceived and invented in the mind of Neville himself, and made custom here in town. It's a one-of-a-kind experience, to actually have a one of a kind piece of clothing.

Check out the video we produced for Neville as part of an ongoing series. We hope you'll find him as entertaining as we do. HahahH! And get tix ($10 plus service) right here.

Quarter-Mile Slip and Slide Possibly Being Planned Downtown This Summer - UPDATE

UPDATE

There have been preliminary meetings regarding permits with City Hall officials. It's said that Prospect Street is the top contender for location.

________________________________________________

There have been recent reports of a giant Slip and Slide being planned for Downtown New Haven. according to website "Slide The City."

"Embrace your inner child and get ready for the slide of your life! Slide the City is bringing the biggest water party of the summer to your city. Grab your swimsuit and speed down this one of a kind 1000ft slip and slide. There will be music, dancing, food, drinks, and even some swag for sale so you can soak up the sun in style."

Topography of Prospect St.
The website's New Haven page contains a map which appears to be pointing nowhere in particular (it's the default for where the zip code 06501 points on Google Maps) so the actual location of the event is uncertain. 1000ft for a slip and slide sounds awesome, but the New Haven Green is only 874ft.
The site does say that it converts city streets into slip and slides, so this could take place on an actual city street such as Church St or Chapel St. as more details emerge.

Events on the website say that while locations are planned through September, New Haven is listed as "Coming Soon" meaning that an exact time and location have not been planned. Nearby Waterbury is planned already on July 18 (site).

Illustrators Show at Arts Council Next Week

View Larger Map - Opening Reception on the evening of November 7th

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven invites you to The Art of Picture Books: Creative Process in Visual Storytelling book signing and artists’ reception on the evening of November 7, 2013. The exhibition will run from November 8, 2013, through January 3, 2014. Eight award-winning children’s book artists from the New Haven area, in collaboration with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, have curated an exhibition of their work, with an eye toward revealing the fascinating process of creating original work for young readers. The exhibition features the work of Doe Boyle, Frank W. Dormer, Deborah Freedman, Lynn Reiser, Sanna Stanley, Marcela Staudenmaier, Jennifer Thermes, and Nancy Elizabeth Wallace.

In this exhibition, the eight diverse authors and illustrators, working in a variety of media, have pooled talents to showcase the many inventive ways that artists reach the imaginations of children. Each artist will present work that illuminates a single aspect of developing a picture book that creatively melds words and pictures into a seamless unit. Long a literary staple as well as a first introduction to the dramatic and engaging world of art, picture books are a memorable element of childhood, carefully designed to entertain and/or educate audiences of eager listeners and emergent readers.  The creation of such a finely balanced work of art requires a particular magic, and these seven illustrators will unveil the precision and intuition that goes into every picture story.
