Honoring the Legacy of Julia Child

In honor of what would have been Julia Child's 102 birthday, please join us for a special celebration of the life and the recipes of this influential culinarian. Wear your pearls and favorite apron as we taste and cook our way through some of Julia's classic recipes. All events are complimentary. We ask, if you believe in the life’s work of Julia Child and culinary education you think about making a donation payable to CitySeed in care of the Master Cooks Corps program which provides free culinary education to New Haven’s communities.

Uplifting Story from Westville

Video produced by Stereomedia Creative Services - distributed by Nhv.Org

For Pete's Sake: A Westville Experience from New Haven, Connecticut on Vimeo.

If you caught our article from the other day, you'd have been there for this excellent pizza party sponsored by iSliceNhv, the acclaimed pizza place in town. The family suggested donation was $30 and the party was basically open to the public.

Stereomedia makes films about you.

The reason for the fundraiser was because Dominic Paglia agreed to an operation where he gave 55% percent of his liver to his uncle, Pete. The surgery was performed May 20th 2014 at PennMedicine, and according to the family went remarkably smooth (see video).

Interviews included in the video are:

Dominic (organ donor)

Dave (organ transplant recipient)

Donald (father of the donor, brother of the recipient)

Chris (wife of Donald)

Justin (recipient's son)

There may be a few others mixed in there. I believe Mike, the bartender from Da Legna, is in there somewhere playing soccer towards in the beginning.

It's true; the Paglias are a remarkable family. And they're just one example of some of the amazing people you're going to learn about in New Haven, here on Nhv!

Every Year's A Leap Year.

Source: Leap For Kids
Want to do something nice this year for kids in #Nhv?
The 19th annual LEAP Year Event is an evening of terrific food, stimulating conversations, and rich culture. Its purpose is to raise money to support LEAP’s nationally recognized after-school and summer mentoring programs for children and youth living in New Haven’s high poverty neighborhoods. Generous LEAP supporters in the Greater New Haven area host intimate dinner parties in their elegant homes and other select venues. A notable Guest of Honor joins each dinner party, providing a special theme for each gathering.

This year’s event will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2014. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and book signing at Hopkins School at 5 p.m.  At 7 p.m.., guests will depart for the individual dinners held at the homes of LEAP supporters.
