Building Demolished on Orange and Chapel.

Rooftop decay led to falling bricks on a Sunday afternoon in New Haven, prompting local officials to cordon off the area with caution tape, everything from Chapel on Church to State, and Orange at the intersection of Chapel to Crown. Officials were making their top priority the safety of pedestrians and spectators as an excavator made sample of the wreck.

Smashing parts of the building which would otherwise simply fall apart unexpectedly by the weight of their own gravity, the machinery took out a substantial amount of the upper floors of the building in the front, as is seen in the video. Economic Development director Matthew Nemerson was in attendance and commented that the building was already slated for demolition. Asked whether the accidental incident unintentionally expedited the process, he stated that it was an historic building and that it would have been better to have adequate documentation of the process.


The next morning, the building was entirely gone. All lanes flowing on Chapel and on Orange were entirely open.

House Fires and Prevention

A house fire broke out today on the first floor of a house on Foster and Willow Street this afternoon.
To the best of my knowledge, no one was significantly injured but the fire itself brings about some important safety issues which could possibly be addressed.  First, it's important to note that fires can often be prevented; the United States Fire Administration has a helpful PDF document which can help you prevent any sort of fire in your home.  It's a 20-page document, but mentioned in it are essentially the use of fire alarms, the viability of residential sprinkler systems, child supervision, the poisonous gasses produced by fires, and a number of other topics of use to anyone who, when seeing something of this nature, tends to feel inclined towards seeking to prevent the same thing from re-occurring.


The NHFD was on the scene in force, with several trucks including #3 Ladder, which assisted some firefighters up to the roof in order to create some ventilation.

Remembering Frank Dellamura

The Fire Department today is assembled in preparation for a motorcade, in respect to the late Frank Dellamura, a member of NHFD who later became an inspector.
