Henry Fernandez, mayoral candidate, speaking to Ibrahim (nhv journalist / interviewer) |
We approached Henry Fernandez a few weeks ago, and asked him to speak to us about his campaign platforms and initiatives. The person he spoke to was Ibrahim Abdul Qawiyy, one of the founders of Youth Day. Naturally, the conversation gravitated towards programs for the youth. Fernandez mentioned an interest in developing more extracurricular programs in each and every neighborhood of New Haven, which was aligned with his proven record of having initiated the program L.E.A.P. here in town.
We have one more interview left before our work is complete; that's with Hillhouse Principal Kermit Carolina, who is also seeking to become the next mayor of New Haven. Once all of the interviews are complete, they'll be released individually as a playlist, each about 3-5 minutes in length. A full-length version with all four individuals running for mayor will also be available, to keep you, the voter, more informed so that you can make educated decisions. This is a chance to get to know all of the candidates by watching how they interact with regular citizens, such as yourself. The project was designed with the simplicity of a few structural points:
- one on one conversations
- seated, outdoors
- no scripting or planning involved
What better way to help you be informed about the people running to represent you in city government as the next mayor? We hope that this process becomes an ongoing tradition which increases in the quality of the end result. This video will be released next month.
