NHFPL Offers Chinese Language and Culture Course

The New Haven Free Public Library will once again offer a series of weekly classes in Chinese Language and Culture starting Monday, Mar. 4 and running through May 20. 

Class meets at the Ives Main Library, 133 Elm St., on Monday evenings from 6-7:30 pm and is taught by Grace Zhao. The series is designed for individuals who are planning to travel or do business in China, as well as those who just want to learn more about the Mandarin Chinese language and Chinese culture.

In each class, Ms. Zhao will present basic Mandarin Chinese vocabulary in a cultural context. Participants will practice greetings and common phrases for eating, shopping, traveling & making phone calls. She will also discuss traditional Chinese customs and celebrations.

Grace Zhao is from The People’s Republic of China and  has been teaching Mandarin Chinese in New Haven for more than 7 years.  She helped to originate this series in cooperation with the Library and Yale University’s Council on Far East Studies. A $25 series fee will be collected online or at the first class to support instruction and other costs. Class size is limited to 20 students, so register now at www.chineseseries.eventbrite.com.
