Local Architect Wins Award

Source:  plataformaarquitectura

New Haven is the kind of place where you never know what's going on in the office upstairs from your local Starbucks.  Cesar Pelli is a local architect who works downtown at his firm, Pelli Clarke Pelli (their website is amazing).  His team designed such things as the Petronas Twin Towers (wiki) which, from 1998-2004, were the tallest buildings in the world, and more recently Iberdrola Tower in Spain.  He's currently 86 and still works hard.

From the above (Video Desciption):
"In this video, Mr. Pelli comments on projects that have been significant in his career, at different stages of his life, affecting his life or the direction of his design."

Other great New Haven architects include Paul Rudolph and Fred Clarke, of course.  Who else can you name?  Comments have included Dave Coon, Ben Hosen, Jim Martin, even Kyle Skar belongs on the list.

Ian Applegate commented:  "There's also Eric Epstein, who converts unused Walmarts down south into Junior Colleges."  He remarked also that Eric was the designer of a great book on trees, which was strategically (and appropriately) named "Trees," in that case.  Sometimes architects write books!

If you're more curious about what's going on upstairs, The Petronas Twin Towers which were designed in New Haven are featured in this timelapse which you might find entertaining:
