Expanded Community Programming @ Kehler Liddell Gallery

Westville Gallery Launches Indiegogo Campaign

Westville’s Kehler Liddell Gallery (KLG) is dedicated to celebrating the arts. Its member artists believe in the power of the arts to challenge and illuminate our understanding of the world and to connect us with one another across great divides. For more than a decade, KLG has presented high-quality monthly art exhibitions by local artists and hosted a wide breadth of public programming often charged by the excitement of cross-disciplinary collaborations.

This year, KLG plans to expand the programming side of the Gallery by developing a robust schedule of community arts programs and events for children, young people, adults and families in the greater New Haven region. Artists will lead monthly story-time events, portfolio review days, family movie nights, artist talks, workshops, demonstrations and more. An apprenticeship program will be established for students seeking to gain experience in a retail gallery. Additionally, KLG plans to offer new opportunities for more artists to share in this unparalleled space for creative expression. In the past few months, KLG has presented several of these programs to the community, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

To support the first year of programming, KLG is launching an Indiegogo campaign on February 11, 2017 that features an online sale of artwork and a number of curated events at the Gallery. The ArtEcon Initiative, a new neighborhood-based non-profit, will act as fiscal sponsor. Located in the heart of New Haven’s Westville village, Kehler Liddell Gallery is a cooperative gallery owned and operated by member artists. Its mission is to represent, present, promote, and sell work of local contemporary artists. As champions of free speech, the Gallery does not censor its artists’ work or written statements. It is dedicated to representing critical perspectives that challenge and illuminate our culture and enrich our aesthetic experience.

Founded by eight artists in 2003, KLG is New Haven’s longest running retail gallery. Historically though, KLG has always been more than just a store. An outgrowth of the Westville-based arts renaissance, KLG has anchored such beloved local arts events as the Westville Artwalk, the Halloween Parade and the Holiday Open House. Additionally, KLG has hosted a number of cross-disciplinary events including projects with musicians, theatre troupes, filmmakers, and authors, all of which are free and open to all.

As fiscal sponsor, ArtEcon Initiative will be assisting with this programming initiative. Since 2004, ArtLoftsWest (ArLoW), Westville's affordable artist housing development, has been working to catalyze an arts revitalization in this distinct New Haven neighborhood. The ArtEcon Initiative seeks to expand ArLoW’s mission with the creation of additional opportunities for bringing arts and creative culture to the community.

We hope you will join Kehler Liddell Gallery as it embarks on an enlivened mission to broaden its audience, strengthen its impact and create high quality arts programming and events for the greater New Haven region. If you are unable to donate, but still support this vision, please contact KLG: kehlerliddell@gmail.com, 203-389-9555. There are many opportunities to get involved!
