One of the best things about living in New Haven is being able to walk down the street and say hi to all to all the familiar faces.

Yesterday was considered a success to the many people that assembled on the green to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the "I Have A Dream" speech of Martin Luther King.

On hand were a number of different organizations, including Love146, New Haven Promise, and Operation Smile.  Folks like the poet Rick Best, and artists like Katro Storm were there.  Young organizers like YouthDay founder Sabir Abdussabur was also in attendance.

Watch the video; it's a good opportunity to see where young people are at today, with regard to how they hope to shape their world for the better.  We all have great ideas; but re-branding the city away from its past reputation as a place to brandish firearms ("gun-wavin' which so conveniently rhymes), to replace that with a new and better unofficial title:  Dream-makin' New Haven.  Life-Savin' New Haven.

That was the message bestowed upon the crowd by Frank Brady, who performed with the microphone yesterday afternoon in rememberance of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Coinciding with the first day of school, the New Haven "Wake up and Dream" event is being created by The Future Project, described as a national movement to reimagine education, one dream at a time."

This event begins on the #nhv green at 3pm.
It's expected to go on for several hours.

It coincides with the anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Speech "I have a dream."
